SimbOS is a free app that puts your terminals and your project files side by side on an infinite canvas. You open the folder, open one terminal per agent and watch them all work at the same time.

Download it from the website

No sign-up, no credit card, no account. It is free forever and runs on your computer, with no server.

download SimbOS There is a version for Mac (macOS 11 or newer) and for Windows 10 or 11, still in beta.
step 2

Install it on your computer

Mac

  1. On the website, pick the version for your Mac. Not sure which one? Click the Apple menu in the corner of the screen, then About This Mac: if it says Chip Apple M1, M2, M3 or M4, get the Apple Silicon version. If it says Intel, get the other one.
  2. Open the .dmg file you downloaded.
  3. Drag SimbOS into the Applications folder.
  4. Open the app. It is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens right away, with no warning.

Windows

  1. Download the .exe installer and open it.
  2. The first time, Windows shows a blue warning. Click More info and then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer and open the app.

The ones worth memorizing

On Windows, use Ctrl instead of ⌘.

⌘OOpen a folder.
⌘TNew terminal in the last folder you opened.
⌘⇧ENew file browser.
⌘SSave the file you are editing.
⌘⇧FFit everything on screen without changing the layout.
⌘⏎Arrange the folder's cards in a grid.
good to know

SimbOS only reads files inside the folder you opened. Updates download in the background and it never restarts unless you tell it to.
